What to wear for your engagement session
I know it can be so stressful trying to decide what to wear for your engagement session! And I know that a great outfit can take your pictures to the next level and make them even more stunning!
The nice thing is that a lot of photographers, myself included, let you change so you can have two outfits in your photos. I will give a couple pointers to help you pick outfits that will be great for your style and in any location.
1- Do your research! Browse Pinterest. What pictures stick out to you and what are the couples wearing? You will find that you will tend to like pictures with a similar style of photography and clothing. Other great spots for clothing inspiration could be instagram, the websites of your favorite clothing boutiques, or your photographer’s website.
2- Consider your location. Wear clothing that compliments and does not clash or blend in with surroundings. For example, it may not be best to wear muted browns or greens in a desert shoot. Your outfit will blend in with your surrounding and you wont stand out. Another example could be to not wear all light blue or tans to a beach shoot!
3- Don’t be too matchy matchy! Sometimes I see couples doing pictures in the same shade of jeans and similar color tee shirts. While I love a good casual choice of outfits… please don’t do pictures in the same outfit! If you are going casual, mix it up with different color pants and shirts. Again, look at your inspiration pictures and if you aren’t sure, ask your photographer. I am always up for a good chat about clothes!
4- Keep the focus on you. I love fun patterns, but try not to both wear crazy patterns that would take the focus away from you. If one of you wants to wear a patterned dress, or a patterned button-up, it is usually safe that the other person stays away from a pattern. This way you can be sure they won’t clash and steal your attention.
5- Stay true to you! Honestly, the more comfortable you are in your clothing, the more comfortable you will be in front of the camera. If you are wearing an outfit that is far from your personal style and makes you feel uncomfortable, don’t wear it to your shoot! It will translate to your photos and you may not be as happy with the outcome.
